The Makers We Work With

Seven partners · from the bed to the frying pan · selected, not tendered

You can furnish a house by putting the work out to tender and choosing the lowest bidder. We did it the other way round: first we considered what we wanted to handle every day, then asked who made such things. You will know some of these names; others may be new to you.

You only notice bed linen when it is poor. Ours comes from LUIZ, as do the bedding and terry towelling: the things you touch for longest in the house. If you ask where the bedding comes from after your first night, we have done everything right.

Every suite has a fully equipped kitchen with appliances from BORA. Steam and cooking vapours are drawn downwards instead of above your head, so there is no hood in the way and no noise over the hob. You can cook and hold a conversation at the same time.

Cast iron from France that is not replaced but handed down. If you use your own kitchen here, you will cook with pots heavier than expected, in which everything that needs time turns out better.

The bathrooms have dispensers rather than travel-size bottles, filled with Aesop products. There are two reasons: they are the best we found, and anything else would have ended up in the bin after two showers.

Wooden fitness equipment made in Germany: beautiful enough not to hide away and honest enough for a proper workout. An ash-wood treadmill does not look like a gym; it simply works like one.

Designed by a Swiss sculptor, not a barbecue manufacturer: an open fire in the centre, surrounded by a broad steel surface on which everything cooks slowly. The most beautiful place in the house in summer.

When we pick you up, we do so electrically. The vehicles come from Lucid and are looked after by regional company Wackenhut, so that the station transfer and the drive to dinner leave no trace of combustion on your stay.

Many of these things are also available to take home. Ask at Le Comptoir what is currently on the shelf.
