The Schäffler Trail
Cycling
The Schäffler Trail
One of the area’s better-known circuits, named after the trail that ties it together and featuring a viewpoint called Knetschwasen.
Over the Knetschwasen
The climb is long but steady. At the top, the view opens over Kappelrodeck and the vineyards – a good place for the first proper break.
The trail and the ride back
The Schwarzwaldtrail towards the Spinnerhof is the part you came for. The way home passes the Illenau in Achern, a vast nineteenth-century hospital that now houses the town hall, a museum and a bistro.
Good to know
Best with your own mountain bike. The route starts in Achern; the trails are demanding when wet.
